Meet Anjello Sampath Wimalachandra
Nordija´s Android Developer from Sri Lanka
Anjello is originally from Srí Lanka and moved to the UK when he was 24 to study and work as a Java/Android developer. He studied at the London Metropolitan University and afterward joined exciting projects such as the Samsung Olympics app in 2012. During that time, he was particularly interested in location-based services when he published his very first Android app Forget C Not - an app that alerts drivers when they get close to the London Congestion charge zone in 2010.
In 2015, he moved back to Srí Lanka and spent a couple of years with his family, partly working on the family businesses before deciding to make the next career step in Denmark, which was heavily influenced by his friends who have already lived in Copenhagen.
What brings you to Denmark?
Why and when did you join Nordija?
After moving to Copenhagen, I worked as an Android developer for a consultancy firm before joining Nordija. While working there, I had a feeling that I could make a more enjoyable career journey if I did not have to switch from one project to an absolutely different project each day.
And that’s around the same time I saw the Nordija opening for an Android position and wasted no time applying for it. It was super intriguing to learn about all the devices that I was going to work with, video streaming, and all technical things.
Role at Nordija
Today I work mostly with Android smartphones and STBs and use my years of experience in crafting this vast and evolving platform. It's challenging and exciting at the same time. I’m working with a great team of colleagues who are friendly and fun to work with. Even though it is the device side of tasks I work mostly with, I am also very interested in the complex back end that we have. One cannot finish learning something they didn’t know at Nordija.
What do you enjoy the most about Nordija´s culture?
We have people from three continents at Nordija, and that’s very exciting! Even though we come from very different backgrounds, we all seem to talk the same talk and walk the same walk when it comes to work and play.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working? And what are your interests and passions outside of work?
Outside of work, I love long walks (too long sometimes), experimenting with different food recipes, particularly puff pastry (I do get it right about once a year!), working on my toy projects and traveling.
