Bram is originally from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and for the past 5 years, he has been working as a front-end software developer. First, in the safety & planning domain of the maritime sector and now at Nordija, transforming the way people consume TV & on-demand content.
He studied Media technologies and obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences. During his studies, he developed a strong interest in web & app technologies, which is still with him to this day.
In 2017 Bram moved to Denmark, where he now lives with his girlfriend in a small city called Skodsborg (just outside of Copenhagen).
What brings you to Denmark?
After I graduated, I decided to take a few months to travel through Asia, New Zealand, and Australia. While sailing off the east coast of Australia, I met the Danish girl who today is my girlfriend.
After we had been traveling back and forth between The Netherlands and Denmark every other week for about a year, I decided to move to Denmark where we now live together since 2017.
Why and when did you join Nordija?
I use streaming and video content services myself on a daily basis, from binge-watching an entire season of “The Office” from my couch on a rainy Sunday to watching short videos on my phone while on a bus or plane.
If you pay attention, there is a lot going on in the way people consume content. Being able to work on improving these experiences is what made Nordija really stand out for me, so when I got the chance to join the team back in 2017, I was very excited.
Role at Nordija
I believe that great software consists not only of great code but equally as good user experience and design. As a front-end developer at Nordija, I focus on writing dynamic software components (called widgets) while working closely with our design & product department to create beautiful and functional user interfaces.
What do you enjoy the most about Nordija´s culture?
The work at Nordija is interesting, but to me, it’s the people here that make Nordija truly stand out as a company. Especially for someone like me, who was new in Denmark, it has been great to find a place that has many fun & social activities and where people feel more like buddies than just coworkers.
What do you like to do when you aren’t working? And what are your interests and passions outside of work?
Travelling is one of the things I really enjoy. One of the great things about being an expat is that every time I visit my home country it now feels like a little vacation :-). Other hobbies I have are going fishing, playing chess, and occasionally working on my own software hobby-projects.
Looking forward to connecting with you.
